Generally yes. I’m a registered member of The Osteopathic Council of Ireland. Treatments are usually covered by VHI, Laya, Irish Life and all other major private health insurance providers. Check with your provider and policy to see how much they will reimburse and the amount of visits they may cover prior to your treatment.
-
Your initial appointment will begin with a series of questions about why you have come in to see me and an overview of your medical history. This information helps me to begin to create a picture of what could be going on in your body. We’ll discuss any specific health goals that you may wish to achieve from your treatments with me.
The next step will be an appropriate physical examination. Depending on your symptom presentation, I may choose to do a few clinical assessments, like checking your blood pressure and heart rate. Following this, I’ll conduct a postural assessment and appropriate orthopaedic tests to establish a working diagnosis for your problem.
Then we’ll get stuck into treatment. My treatment approaches are always guided by best clinical practice. This means I use a blend of evidence-based science (what the research says works well) and clinical experience (what has worked well in my own clinical practice). As my patient, you are at the centre of this approach and the treatment will be designed to meet your needs and health goals. -
For all treatment types, wear comfortable clothes. Please don’t wear jeans or tight fitting clothes. I need to assess how you move and I can’t do so if you’re restricted by your clothing.
One of the osteopathic principles considers the body as a unit. That means, when I’m conducting physical assessments, I’m not just looking at the location of your injured/painful body part. I’m interested in how your body is organised as a whole unit.
In general, bringing a pair of loose shorts and a loose vest would be ideal. If you’re female, sports bras with thick back straps make it difficult for me to work into the deep spinal and shoulder muscles. It would be helpful if you can wear a comfortable bra that can be adjusted as necessary.
You’ll never be asked to expose any body part if you’re not completely comfortable doing so. -
Bring any referral letters you think might be relevant for me to consider from your consultant, G.P., physiotherapist or any other healthcare professional you’ve been attending.
If you have any recent blood panels or imagining - MRIs, CTs or X-rays - please bring a printed copy of the written report for your file. Or, this can be emailed instead to: yael@myosteopathy.ie
Please do not bring imaging CDs.
-
This is always dependent upon the nature of why you’re coming to see me. My aim is to help you return to or achieve full health and fitness as quickly and as safely as possible. I’ll be in a better position to answer this question following your initial appointment.

Yes, of course. My clinic room is a bit small but if it makes you feel more comfortable to have a family member, partner or friend present then I’m happy to accommodate this. Maybe just let me know by text (0834619007) or email (yael@myosteopathy.ie) in advance of the appointment so I can arrange the room accordingly.
